We've had a great week here in Chelmsford! It's been difficult finding new investigators, but at the end of the week, the Lord truly blessed us! We had a really good zone leader exchange on Wednesday, and we saw some miracles! Elder Jensen and I drove off to go tract a street they'd decided on, but we typed the street name in wrong and ended up on a street far out in the country. We thought it would be good to tract, but we quickly found out it was a street where retired people lived, so we decided to drive back to the original street we'd meant to go to. As we were heading back, we realized that the car was getting low on gas, so we pulled into a gas station to fill it up again. As we were paying for the gas, we got talking with the cashier and found out that he's from Romania and has a family. He's super busy, but wants to come to church, so we exchanged phone numbers and will call him once he's off work! The Lord works in mysterious ways!
We haven't seen Tina much this week since she's not feeling well, so we're going to stay in contact and see how she's feeling later this week. Lisa and Scott have been doing super well! We went over to their home on Thursday and had a great lesson with a youth from the ward named Jack. Sometimes it was hard to control the conversation, but we were able to do some How to Begin Teaching with them and asked what they wanted to get from our visits. Lisa told us that she wants her son, Scott, to be part of the Church because she knows how much it will bless him. We set a return appointment for this Tuesday to come and to begin to really teach him, so we're excited for that! Jack did an amazing job fellowshipping him in that lesson! Having members present in your lessons is SO SO good!!!
We also saw a recent convert, Darren, this week. He's usually pretty hard to get a hold of, but we've started to see him more consistently. He also came to church for the 2nd or 3rd time since I've been here, so that was amazing! We're starting to see some progress with him, so we're excited for him! We had dinner with the Bigwood family on Thursday this week! I remember going to their home a few times when I was here two years ago! It was so cool to see how all their kids had grown up so much since the last time I'd seen them! We shared a message based on a video from Elder Bednar when he was in Reading, England in 2011. We taught about how small things bring to pass big things, and we invited them to start at the very beginning with missionary work by simply praying for missionary opportunities. We'll be seeing them again this week, so I'll be sure to take a picture and send it!
Sunday was a miraculous day! We hadn't found any new investigators up to that point of the week, but we had 3 hours in the morning that were open for finding, and it was a Fast Sunday, so we decided to really stretch ourselves and set a goal to find 3 new investigators that morning. We talked with loads of people and had some good conversations, but our time was coming to a close and we still hadn't found anybody. Elder Crowder told me that as we were walking, he said a silent prayer to find a new investigator. A few seconds later, we stopped a young mother, Rica, and had a great conversation with her. It turns out she's a former investigator from around a year ago, and she's interested to learn more and meet up. MIRACLE!!
Another reason why Sunday was miraculous was that Scott came! He was dressed in a white shirt and tie too! Jack's family brought him to church and sat with him. He seemed a little nervous when he first got in, but Elder Lindsay was able to explain a few things to him before the meeting began. It seemed like he was enjoying the testimony meeting, and then he stood up and bore his testimony!!! It was simple and powerful, and he even closed it in the right way too! And then we had a dinner scheduled with Jack's family after church, and they invited Scott to come along, and he came! We taught him about the atonement, and he really enjoyed it! We are SOOO excited for him!!! Hope everybody has had an amazing week!
Love you! Elder McOmber
Funnies of the Week: When Scott was bearing his testimony, he leaned back to the bishopric and said, "I just have a question, what are those people from America called?" Brother Wilson: "Uh, missionaries."
