Week 92: General Conference!

April 4, 2016

General Conference was AMAZING!!! I loved it so much!! The talk that
has stuck with me the most was Elder Christofferson's talk about
fatherhood. This talk, along with others, helped me to realize the
importance of putting other people's needs and happiness above my own,
both in an actual family and also in relationships with others. We're
excited to watch the rest of General Conference later this week and to
study the talks more in depth on our own. I love General Conference!!

Elder Crowder and I have had a great time working together this week!
He's from the east side of Oregon and has 5 brothers and sisters. He's
been on his mission for about 3 months and is 19 years old. We get on
really well, and he's already taught me a lot. One thing he's taught
me is the importance to love the people and to make a bond with them.
One example was when we met a young man in city center. Elder Crowder
noticed this young man had loads of Batman, Doctor Who, and Star Wars
logos on his bag, so he was able to talk with him about that for a
while before transitioning over to the gospel. The young man was more
open to talk and to meet as a result of that bond they had made. Elder
Crowder was also able to bond really well with one of the families in
the ward on Thursday. Elder Crowder has a deep passion for Star Wars
(he deeply enjoyed President Uchtdorf's joke, by the way), and
apparently so do all their teenage boys!

We had more miracles with T this week!! She is SOOO prepared! The
first time Elder Jackson and I met her, she asked questions about what
happens after we die, so Elder Crowder and I taught about the Plan of
Salvation, and she could feel the Spirit so strongly!! During that
lesson, she asked questions like, "So then why are there so many
churches on this earth? Where did the Book of Mormon come from?" So
the next time we saw her, we taught about the Restoration, and she
loved that too! We invited her to be baptized on May 7th if she knew
it was true, and she said yes! After she accepted, she admitted she
didn't know too much about baptism and asked questions about what it
was. We'll be teaching her the Gospel of Jesus Christ on Wednesday to
help answer her questions. :) We are so grateful and so excited to be
teaching her!!!

We found some really good potential investigators on Friday! The first
one is H, a uni student from Michigan! Elder Crowder and I were SUPER
excited to talk to an American, because we don't meet many over here
in England. She loved talking with us, and when we transitioned the
conversation to the gospel, she told us that she had a friend who was
a Mormon, so she already knew a little bit about the Church. She wants
to learn more about why there are so many churches on the earth and
which church is actually true, so we'll be seeing her tomorrow morning
to help her find some answers! The second strong potential we found is
A, another uni student. We were trying to contact some former
investigators, but they had moved out of their flat and A had moved
in. A is studying mechanical engineering (it gets even better) and
actually has a copy of the Book of Mormon back home in Nigeria! He
wants to learn more about what it is and where it came from, so we'll
be seeing him tomorrow evening to explain more. Miracles!!

Last miracle of all: IT'S WARMING UP!!!

Hope everybody had a great week and a great time listening to General
Conference!

Funnies of the Week:

We almost got dropped on by more pigeons this week. One almost got us
as we walked past a lamppost, and then another time we were sitting
and doing calls in city center when a woman walked by and threw out a
ridiculous amount of bird feed just a few feet away from us.

It seemed like a theme of fatherhood, marriage, and family pervaded
many of the talks this General Conference. My companion kept elbowing
me throughout the sessions, saying, "Hey, this is for you!"

Goodbye Elder Jackson!
