This has been a great, awesome,
wonderful week!! First off, C is doing
SOOO good!!! We're planning out her baptismal program now, and she's
getting excited for it! Her mother, J, wants to be baptized on
February 13th with her, but we're not sure if she'll be ready by then
since we haven't been able to teach her for a while. We're a little
sad about that, but we can reschedule J's baptismal date for sometime
in March instead. We're so excited for them!!
K has been doing well too, but he's gotten busy recently, so he wasn't
able to come to our appointment on Thursday, and he slept through his
alarm on Sunday; however, he's coming to a "Start Your Own Business"
course the Church is sponsoring, so we'll see him there on Tuesday as
well as our appointment with him on Thursday.
Yesterday, we had Ward Conference, and it was great!!! They talked a
lot about the Sabbath day, which was great for Caroline since we'd
just taught it to her the night before. We also learned about the
Europe Area Plan and how much simplification took place to the
original plan. The Area Authorities had taken the original plan that
was around 20 or 30 pages long and simplified it to three simple
steps: (1) Bring a friend, (2) become spiritually and temporally
self-reliant, and (3) find an ancestor. As we learned about the plan,
we realized how great of a tool this plan was and how we should be
using it more with the members. We talked with lots of members
afterwards and set up some good appointments, and we're excited to
work more closely with them!
Reviewing the past week, the first fun thing we did was Family Home
Evening with the Sheppard family last week. That in itself is worth
mentioning because the Sheppards have AMAZING Family Home Evenings!
Since it was Robbie Burns night (he's a big Scottish poet), they had a
Scottish theme to their Family Home Evening. We ate some haggis and
other traditional Scottish food, and it was really good! I love the
Sheppards!
On Tuesday, we finally gave E, C, and L their reading calendar, the
Book of Mormon Stories book, and the Gospel Library app - everything
they need to really get going on studying the scriptures. After our
brief lesson with them, we went to Youth with C. When we got there,
some of the Youth hugged C and started talking with her - it was nice
to see that C has some good friends in the Church. We sometimes attend
the Youth activities since some of the people we work with are in that
age group, and they had a really good activity this week. I don't know
if all the young men did it, but at least two of the young men
presented one of their special interests/hobbies for around 10 minutes
each. One of the young men gave a presentation about airplanes and his
dream of becoming an RAF pilot, and another less-active young man (who
would usually skip the activities and play guitar in one of the side
rooms) presented his hobby of playing the guitar. Good idea! Great
Youth program here!
On Wednesday, we had another amazing miracle: I PASSED MY DRIVING TEST!!!
Throughout the week, we also worked on one of our zone goals called
"Follow-Up Nutella Cup". It's a weird name, but it helps us remember
it, and it was based off of a zone goal we made a while ago called
"Build me up, Buttercup!" We basically call another companionship
several times throughout the week to ask how they and their
investigators are doing. As we've done it this week, we've gotten
closer with the companionship we've been calling. We hope that our
zone unity continues to improve as we continue to strive to achieve
that zone goal!
Finally, we had a good lesson with K (different K from the person who
stopped us and asked if we could help him come to church) about the
Atonement yesterday. Recently I'd heard about how we should feel God's
love for the people we teach, and I wondered how I could do that. As
we were teaching K about the Atonement in his home, I realized that I
answered my own question with what I was teaching him. It was a
wonderful experience to find an answer to my own question as we
reached out to help others find answers to their questions.
Hope everybody's had a great week! Thanks for reading!

Funnies of the Week
We gave some of the Ghirardeli brownies my family sent me for
Christmas to C & J, and J couldn't believe that we'd made them. "Those
boys made them? They taste so good!"
We had a dinner appointment with a family whose mother teaches
Seminary, and she showed us her Banana of Doctrine, a big paper banana
she hangs on the wall. She uses it to teach her students about
understanding the scriptures - we peel away the people and the events
and feast upon the core doctrines and principles.
When we were having Robbie Burns night with the Sheppards for Family
Home Evening, we had a competition to see who could read Robbie Burns'
poems with the best Scottish accent, and my companion won! I have
shamed my Scottish ancestors.
