Week 62: Member missionary work!

September 8, 2015

Hello! I got a new companion this week, Elder Chu! He's from Hong Kong, and he speaks Cantonese! He's a really great missionary, and I hope to learn a lot from him this transfer!

We just had a mission conference yesterday with the man who wrote the Sister Susan Fulcher Case Study, and I was just blown away. He really got us to think about how we can improve our relationship with members of the Church and how we can work together to do missionary work, and he gave us some amazing ideas of how to do much more effective member-missionary work.

My trainer, Elder Zarse, just finished his mission and actually came to the mission conference, so I got to see him before he went back home to Germany!

It's amazing to see how the Lord's will becomes so apparent over time. We've recently struggled with our Chinese investigators because they all seem to be busy. Last week was really hard, because when I was in Dereham before, Norwich was just on a roll, and it felt like when I got here and when Elder Opiyo left, people started to get busy and unable to meet with us anymore. Then one day one of our zone leaders said that they were having the same type of trouble, and they said something that really helped me. He said that maybe it's the Lord's way of saying that it's time for us to do something different. When he said that, we all began thinking of what we should be doing, and then it all came to us. The answer was so simple. Work with the members! Over the past few weeks, we'd all received lots of trainings about working better with the members, but we thought that we didn't really need to since we already were having lots of success without them. When we thought of all the times we'd heard that we should be working better with the members, it became so obvious that that was what the Lord wanted us to do. Even the Bishop of our ward had just requested us to begin to meet him every Saturday since he felt he wasn't working closely enough with us. Since then, we've set goals and made plans to work better with the members, and we're excited to begin!

Hope everyone's having a great time back home! Love y'all!
