Week 73: R's Baptism!

November 23, 2015

We had moves calls last night, and I'm staying in Aylesbury!!! I'm so
happy - this is one of my favorite areas so far! The members have been
more involved and interested in this moves call than any other moves
call I've had - the members have been calling and texting us to know
the results of who's going and who's staying. I love the members here!
We actually happened to be with the Bishop's family when moves calls
happened, and after the call was over, they were all saying, "That was
tense! I wasn't even involved in that call, but I could feel the
suspense!" Welcome to transfers. Elder Moulton and I are so excited
for this transfer!!

We had another amazing event this week: R's baptism! It went
PERFECTLY. We were so nervous about it, especially because the week
leading up to his baptism was going a little rough, but it all ended
well! His mother, who hasn't really shown much interest in learning
about the Church, had a great time at the baptism, and we think that
she felt the Spirit! She also came to a stake dancing activity (where
they did the classic EFY dance), and she loved that too! We're so
excited for R and his family!!!

I had an exchange this week with Elder Tonks, a zone leader in
Watford, and we had a miracle happen! We'd gone to stop by a
less-active member that neither of us had ever met before, and we
knocked some doors nearby the member's home. Of course, the miracle
happened with the last door we knocked. A man who looked like he was
in his 20s but actually turned out to be 16 (that happens a lot with
teenagers here in England) opened the door and invited us in so we
could share our message! His name is K, and we were able to teach him
about the Restoration and invite him to read and to pray about the
Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith! We'll be seeing him again this week!

After we had our moves call last night with Bishop and his family, he
drove us back to our flat, and we had a good conversation about our
success as missionaries, why we think we don't get as high of key
indicators as our mission leaders, and how we could improve. We threw
around some ideas, but eventually Bishop told us that he thought that
something we could focus on was to forget ourselves and go to work. I
found a great talk this morning from General Conference in October
2007 by President Eyring that's entitled "God Helps the Faithful
Priesthood Holder". I haven't finished studying it yet, but I think
that this idea is going to make a big difference, just as it did with
President Hinckley when he was on his mission. I'm so grateful for
inspired Church leaders!

Thanks for all of your letters and love! Hope everybody has another
great, awesome, wonderful week!

Funnies of the Week

Elder Moulton and I had an obedience evaluation a few days ago, and we
decided that one thing we needed to work on was listening to music
that brought the Spirit. So he re-wrote all of the Hairspray songs
with gospel lyrics.
